Hello. My name is Rick Achberger, husband
of the late Cindy Achberger. I wanted to thank you for
contributing to a very special cause. With your help, the
Cindy Achberger Youth Baseball Association (CAYBA) will grow
and benefit the youth throughout the area.
Cindy was born in Metairie, Louisiana and
pursued a career in the radio industry. She later moved to
Dallas, Texas to become one of the most successful radio
promotion directors in the country. She helped build such
stations as KEGL 97.1 FM and KYNG 105.3 FM. Both stations
soared in the ratings with her help.
I met Cindy through a mutual friend of ours
at a radio sponsored event. I soon realized that Cindy was a
beautiful person inside and out. She was so caring and helpful
in any given situation. She was loved and respected by her co
workers and friends. She organized several charity events on
behalf of her radio station throughout the years. She took
care of business and even tackled a bigger task of taking care
of me as well! We fell in love and were later married.
Cindy was diagnosed with a rare form of
thyroid cancer called Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. This disease
is very aggressive and has a extremely low survival
percentage. Cindy knew what she was up against. I was amazed
by Cindy's strength and determination. She stayed positive
through every treatment they gave her. She gained more and
more strength from family,
friends, and God. We fought this disease for
two years. She passed away on February 11, 2002.
The Cindy Achberger Youth Baseball
Association was created by her brother George Turner to help
the kids in the area as well as to keep her name alive. She
would be so proud of her brother and the great cause her name
is associated with.
Thanks again for your contribution.
Sincerely,
Rick
Achberger
